February 1, 2020
Dear Alderman Thompson,
Thank you for reaching out and discussing tomorrow’s Lunar New Year parade, scheduled for February 2nd, 2020. This letter is to inform your team’s internal decision-making in light of recent international and local news about the novel coronavirus.
Based on current information, and in consultation with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the risk of novel coronavirus to the general public both nationally and in Chicago remains low. Members of the general public donot need to change their behavior in any way at this point related to the novel coronavirus.
The Chicago Department of Public Health is therefore not recommending cancellation of large gatherings at this time. Thank you for your care in planning this event and we wish you success.
Sincerely,
Allison Arwady, MD, MPH

Allison Arwady, MD, MPH
