Chinatown Security Foundation announces Light-up Chinatown Pilot Project to improve community safety and security
Chinatown Security Foundation will be initiating a pilot project this weekend to improve illumination on the 200 block of Alexander Street between Wentworth and Princeton by installing additional lightings. The Foundation had surveyed the core Chinatown neighborhood in recent weeks and concluded that improved illumination could contribute to improved safety and security. The Alexander Street block was selected for the Pilot Demonstration for its key location. With experience acquired from the pilot project and feedback from community residents, an improved and detailed implementation plan will be announced for the whole Chinatown neighborhood.
The Pilot Project installations will be provided to the residents for free and the Foundation is glad to have received not only the consent but the enthusiastic support from the residents on the Alexander Block. The planning of the project included considerations of maximum illumination output as well as energy efficiency. The proposed lighting fixtures will have photocell feature to turn on at dusk and off at dawn.
The Foundation is also grateful for the financial, material and in-kind supports from many individuals and organizations in the community that make this project possible.
The Pilot Project will begin and be completed within next week and before Christmas. There will be a press conference at a later date after we have completed an evaluation.
